Christmas 2009

Two posts in one day? In one month? I'm such a terrible blogger but something tells me that next year that will all change. So Christmas Eve is tomorrow. Miley still doesn't know exactly what Christmas is but she does know who Santa is this year. We went to Santa on Thursday and she did very well. We talked her up while in line, "Miley, you have to tell Santa what you want for Christmas and be real sweet so you can get a candy cane." That worked but she didn't like the candy cane.

We're headed to my mom's tonight then back to our house tomorrow so we can have Christmas morning at home. It's been a crazy month so I'm looking forward to a few days of relaxing with my feet up. Stephen has been working non-stop since last Monday so I know he's exhausted. Miley is her happy self but she's started a new phase. She has started talking back and throwing fits again. I hope this phase blows through quickly. She had been so sweet lately.

We have more exciting things coming up but I'll have to save that for another post. Hope to post about our Christmas this weekend. Merry Christmas everybody!

No more YMCA daycare :(

Last Monday we found out that Miley's daycare is closing for good on December 30. It came as a shock and we'll really miss everyone there. We've found her a new place and she'll start at the first of the year. This week and next she's at home so we can save a little bit of money.

Friday was her last day and everyone was sad to see her go. The director came to me and said "We love all the kids but some have a special place in our hearts and we're not ready to say good-bye yet. Miley is one of them." That made me cry. She might say that to everyone but it was still nice to hear that our baby was so loved. I know everyone at the new school will love her too. I really hope she will adjust quickly. The new class will have 8 girls and 2 boys. Miley has always been in classes with more boys than girls so I hope she doesn't get into cat fights ;)

The very last of baby-hood

I'm really not sure why I don't post anymore. Work has been busy and we haven't really been up to much but I know I could find some time but yet I don't. Oh well, I guess I'm down to one post a month.

The very last moments of Miley as a baby are quickly disappearing. She's a kid and a very smart one at that. On Tuesday of last week I was informed that Miley would be moving up from the Butterfly room to the Squirrels. She is no longer the oldest in her class, she is the youngest of 10. The new room is a lot like the Butterflies' except she no longer drinks from a sippy cup (yikes) and the number one goal for the day is potty training. The first day she gave me a big hug and said "Bye Mommy, see you later, love you." Such a big girl where has the time gone?

In other milestones, she sings several songs now. The ABC's, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Little Teapot, Hokey Pokey, Lady Gaga's Paparazzi (we are forced to blare this song when it comes on the radio). She remembers peoples' names, events like her birthday party and Disney World. She'll be sitting on the couch and say "I wanna see pirate" or "Ride the boat, ride the boat". Potty-training is in a word...inconsistent but she's working on it. The thumb is still an issue. She stopped sucking it for 2 weeks following her pneumonia but it's back.

We had a nice Thanksgiving at my Mom and Dad's. Miley threw up that night just like she did on the 4th of July. I believe the key is Mandarin oranges. Stephen, my Mom, and I were sitting outside Toys r us at 10 pm waiting for them to open at midnight when my brother's girlfriend called. The key is oranges and when I'm not around apparently.

We're getting ready for Miley's third Christmas. We put the tree up yesterday and she LOVES it!! It has Elmo lights and Sesame Street ornaments so of coarse she loves it. We're almost done Christmas shopping but we still need to see Santa. Not sure how she'll do this year. I hope I remember to post the experience, maybe that will be the one for December.

2nd Birthday Party and our Third Halloween

Miley's birthday party was on Saturday and it was a blast. Stephen and I worked our butts off all day to get the yard and the house ready. Miley thankfully spent Friday night with Papa and Mimi so we could get all the work done.

On Thursday before the party Miley was really under the weather and I thought we might need to cancel her party. We took her to the doctor that evening and it turns out she has pneumonia. We immediately gave her antibiotics and by the next morning was already feeling much better. So the party was a go.

The party was an Elmo party of coarse complete with an Elmo's World bounce house and a homemade Elmo cake. She had a blast and loves all her gifts. She was been blissfully playing with them every waking moment (which Mommy and Daddy love to have some free time).

Here are a few photos from the party:

We have another big weekend coming up. Saturday is Halloween so if it doesn't rain, Miley will be trick or treating. Also on Saturday is the YMCA annual Wing Bowl (it's a chicken wing cooking competition). A very large photo of Miley will be displayed at the Bowl because she is so cute :). After the Wing Bowl, we have tickets to the Jags football game, and then trick or treating around the neighborhood. Miley's going to be a witch this year. I'm not sure if she decided to be a good or bad witch yet but she'll let me know. Friday Miley's trick or treating at daycare and today is her Halloween party. That girl has been a party machine lately!

2 years old today!

Well our sweet baby girl turns 2 today!! Why is it that time has to go so fast? I remember high school and college going so very slowly. We're having an Elmo birthday party on Saturday with a homemade Elmo cake, a bounce house, and hot dogs from the grill. Today unfortunately we have to work and Miley's off to school. I'm taking Elmo cupcakes today for her class to ease my guilt about having to work. Miley saw them last night and her eyes got really big and she said "My happy birthday cake!!" So she is well aware that it's her birthday but she'll probably think it lasts all week ;).

Sorry I haven't blogged in forever. I've been really swamped at work and stressed about all the things that have been going on. We went to Disney for a week at the beginning of the month and all of last month I had to work in the field. It was also starting to feel like blogging was a chore so I hope the break will make blogging fun again.

Anyway so what is new with Miley?
Potty training is now in full swing now that our Disney vacation is over. She used the potty 3 times yesterday which is a new record. Every time she sits on a potty, she always yells "I did it!" Even if she didn't do anything, she still makes an announcement. She can count to 10 super fast now and has done so for a few weeks. She is just learning that counting things doesn't always mean there are 10 of it. She's been singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for a few weeks also but just this last weekend she sang the whole thing with no help. As a matter of fact, she prefers to be a solo act. If I help her sing, it's always "No momma, my turn." Andrew tried to help her sing at the Orlando airport and he got shhhh'ed and was told "Quiet." Diva before her second birthday. She has also become a parrot. She'll repeat anything and I mean anything and she says it very clearly. I can understand about 95% of the things she says. She is very good at talking and comes up with the funniest things to say all the time.

How was Disney?
Disney was very humid and hot so therefore the temperatures felt like 105 to 110 while we were there. We had a lot of fun times and a couple uncontrollable fits. Miley really loved the characters. The first one we met was Stitch, one of her favorites. She was a little shy and held on to me with a death gripe but she didn't cry. Next was Daisy Duck and she got a little braver. By the third character, she'd start saying "I want hug." By the fourth character she'd walk up on her own and hug them really tight. My new favorite photo of Miley is her squeezing Winnie the Pooh and looking up like she's in love :)

Well I need to get ready for work and then Stephen and I need to sing our baby Happy Birthday. I hope I can do it without tearing up this year. Oh not likely I already am. I hope this next year slows down just a little :)

So many new and exciting things going on...

So much to say and so little time. I have to go out in the in about 15 minutes so I'll just type about what's been going on until then.

About 2 weeks ago, Miley and I were looking at the Sesame Street website. There were 5 monsters on this particulary page and Miley stood up, pointed to the monsters and said "One, two, free, four, five". OMG!!!!! She can count when did this happen. She was really excited about how excited I was that she counted again and again but would only say "free, four, five". Well in the last 2 weeks she has even counted to 10. She likes the Mommy says a number then I will game. I'll say 1, then she'll say 2....you get the picture. So yeah, our not even 2 year old can count (with help) to ten, super genius.

In the last month her vocabulary has really grown. Oh gotta go, have to finish next time.

You're a violator, baby!

Yesterday afternoon Miley pushed the alarm Panic button on my key remote. It's happened before and probably will again but this time ADT didn't call to make sure everything was okay. Oh well I guess they figured it was an accident. I start cleaning up the living room, Stephen goes to the backyard to water the garden, and Miley is watching Elmo. 10 minutes go by and all the sudden Stephen pops his head in from the back door "The cops are here." "What?" then the door bell rings.

I answer the door and sure enough it's a policeman. He's tries peeking in the house and says "Is everything alright, is someone hurt? We received a medical panic alert." I tell him that our toddler pushed the button and that usually ADT calls right away. The guy was really nice about it all, but he has to write us a false alarm notice. If we get 3 more in the next year, we have to pay a $50 fine. About this time, Stephen comes around the corner and the cop explains the notice to him. "It says you're the violator, but this isn't a big deal really." Stephen says "Maybe Miley should sign it then." Miley hears her name and walks to the door to check out what is going on (Elmo's over so she has returned to the land of the living). The cop points his finger at her and says "You're a violator, baby!" The way he said it was so funny that we can't help but laugh. Miley smiles then starts pulling on me to come and get 'nack.

Only 21 months old and she's already been in trouble with the law.

We are NOT morning people

This morning, I had a lot of trouble getting out of bed. It's a typical Monday morning where the bed is so nice and warm and work seems like a cold and scary place. Stephen and I have started carpooling to work so we needed to leave early today. After pushing sleep for the fourth time and Stephen asking for the 200th time "Are you going to get up?", I drag myself out of bed. I got dressed and ate a bowl of cereal and decided I better get Miley up.

I slowly open her door and she's laying on her tummy with her head facing the door. She slowly opens one eye then quickly pushes her face in the mattress. She then grabs her bed rails and stretches her legs all the way out. I walk over to her and rub her back telling her to wake up. She swats my hand and screams "Noooooo, my nigh nigh". Then shoves her face back into the mattress and grabs back onto her bed rail. I try again but this time she puts a death grip on her bed and says "My nigh nigh!" And again her whole face goes into the mattress like she's an ostrich or something and I can no longer see her. I started laughing so hard, it made my day. I wonder if I can do that tomorrow when Stephen tries to wake me up. I'll just grab hold of the head board and scream "NOOOOOOO!!! My bed."

A Gemini born in October?

Miley's supposed zodiac sign is a Libra (the scales) meaning well balanced and level headed. I believe she is a Gemini indicating multiple personalities, chaotic, and unpredictable. Yesterday afternoon when I picked up Miss Miley from school, the teachers just went on and on about how well behaved she is. "Oh, Miley NEVER cries unless there is something really wrong". Me.."WHAT!? Never cries, well she whines a lot, right?" Them..."Oh no, she is always so sweet and well behaved." At that moment, Miley shot me her devil grin. As soon as we got home the whining and crying marathon was on. She was so irritated last night, I just wanted to pull my hair out. What was the matter? Here is her list of demands or whining would commence:

1. "Mommy turn Elmo on!" Okay, I turn Elmo on but it's really loud so I turn it down a little. Miley is horrified "Mommy turn up, turn up." "No, baby, it's too loud." All hell breaks loose for a good 5 minutes.

2. Elmo's over. "Mommy turn Elmo on!" "No baby, you just watched it, how about a snack." Whines a little about the Elmo thing then sprints to the pantry yelling 'nack 'nack. I put her in the high chair and give her the pudding. 3 minutes later "Mommy, all done." "You didn't eat any, don't you want it". "MOMMY, ALL DONE!!!" So I get her out of the chair and then she starts crying because she wants to eat her snack while running around the house.

3. Whining for 1 hour begins, reason still unknown.

4. Whining stops and she is playing with her baby umbrella stroller. She desperately wants this thing on the couch, again reason still unknown. Gets really frustrated that she can't get it on the couch so screaming begins. I try to help her and I get told "NOOOOOOO!!! Mommy mine." She then throws herself down and has a fit.

5. Bedtime (thank you lord) she is sleeping peacefully like an angel next to me on the couch. I lift her up and carry her down the hall. The second her head hits her mattress, she's starts crying and yelling "Mommy, mommy, mommy...."

So what is this never cries and never whines? I don't get it, she must be a Gemini. It's either that or she just loves me the most so she's more herself. Tonight, we go to Mimi's so she'll be a perfect angel. Gotta love it :)

Hiccups

Miley has always been prone to hiccups even in the womb. She always gets them when she laughs really hard. It's really cute but if she doesn't grow out of them, they will give her away. You know if she and another kid are giggling in class and the teacher asks "Who's making all the noise?". The hiccups will give her away. So yesterday Miley was laughing from the tickle monster aka Daddy and got the hiccups. Well every time she hiccuped, she would cover her mouth and say " 'xuse me". It was so cute but unfortunately for her, she had the hiccups for 20 minutes and each time felt the need to 'xuse herself. Must be a daycare thing :)

100th Post

This is the 100th post!! I was hoping to have something really good ready for this post but alas I don't so I'll just take you through our weekend.

Friday--When I picked Miley up from daycare she was playing in the baby room (aka the Turtles). She was showing a 4 month old baby boy how to play catch and showing another 4 month old how to push a toy piano's buttons so it would play. It was so cute!! On the way home Miley got suddenly quiet and then puked all over her carseat. FYI that carseat was mission impossible to take apart and then put back together. She seemed fine at home so we went to Chili's with friends. As soon as we sat down at the table Miley puked up a very large amount of undisgested peaches (must have been snack). We thought about leaving but once I cleaned her up in the bathroom and brought her back to the table she was happy and hungry. Puking session was over.

Saturday--Got up early about 8 (Miley usually sleeps in until 9), ate breakfast, drank some prune juice and went to the park with one of my co-workers and her 8 year old son. They played for awhile until the prune juice kicked in and Mommy realized she didn't have any wipes (FUN). We went home for clean pants and then went to the library to rent a new Elmo video because the one she has is driving Mommy and Daddy crazy. She picked out "Elmo loves you", "The best of Cookie Monster", and "Kung Fu Panda". She really loves pandas, that's my girl. Once she had her movies, we went upstairs so I could get a disney vacation book. Miley was very well behaved just walking and carrying her 3 dvds. I was browsing the books when she dropped the dvds and YELLED "I got it, I got it". I tried to help her and she said "No mommy, I got it, I got it". Everyone just started laughing, she probably wasn't yelling but the library is so quiet and sound carries. We then waited in line to check out (Miley hates waiting) and that's when she threw her fit. She was screaming and kicking because she wanted to run around. By the time we actually checked out I was sweating. We went home and watched the movies.

Sunday--Prune juice still working. Monkey climbed on top of the kitchen table again while I was in the bathroom. She climbed up there and was eating cheetos. While I was on the computer, she handed me her diaper and ran out of the room butt naked. I had to chase her down then hold her down to get a new one on. She had a diaper rash at this point because of the prune juice working so well that she just had enough of it. By bedtime we were all exhasted but really enjoyed our 2 short days together.

Little Monkey

Miley has been a climbing machine lately. She climbs on the coffee table, on the couches, the recliner and unfortunately now on the kitchen table (it's counter height). Today the monkey (Miley) climbed the kitchen chair to get to her crayons and fell. I don't know from what height because I didn't see her up there just heard a crash and then crying. She stopped crying right away but I noticed she bite her lip OUCH!!! Monkey is doing fine now, she's watching her beloved Elmo and eating her favorite snack. Wanna take a guess on the snack?.......a banana of course. Remember when she couldn't walk? I barely remember but now she climbs and RUNS (faster than I do even).

The no doctor streak is over

The long streak of healthy Miley has been broken. I had to take her in on Saturday for a really nastly looking rash behind her right ear. Turns out it was impetigo so we got antibotics and a skin cream. Little miss now weighs a wooping 25 lbs 4 oz and is 33 inches tall. She eats like a horse but because she's so active she's a light weight. Wish I had that problem. The rash has already cleared up and it really doesn't seem to bother her.

Swimming lessions ended well, we didn't have any more difficult days so the last few Daddy skipped on joining the fun. She learned to hold her breathe and to spit the water out if she got any in her mouth. Before she would try to drink the pool, nasty.

Miley's language skills have DRAMATIC improved over the last few weeks. We understand her about 80% of the time. She is learning so fast. Potty training is about the same but I haven't really been pushing it. We're going to Disney World in October and I'm thinking diapers would be easier than finding a bathroom every 30 minutes.

Since we are going to Disney, we're rented some classics for Miley to watch. Nothing, I mean nothing, catches her attention more than her beloved Elmo. We have a Best of Elmo DVD and she'll watch all 45 minutes of it TWICE without moving an inch. I wish she loved Mickey over Elmo but you can't choose who you fall in love with :). She really enjoyed Nemo and the Little Mermaid. We were all loving Aladdin but the DVD stopped working right at the parade with Prince Alli. We were all bumped, we rented it from the library and that's the only copy. We'll have to just go out and buy some of these. Every afternoon while Daddy cooks and Mommy cleans up, she watches Mickey's Clubhouse so she knows and loves the Mouse and gang.

Swim Classes

Miley and I started our 2 week "Mommy and Me" swim class at the Y last night. So how did it go? Let's just put it this way...Daddy will now be going with us to the classes. Why? Last night Miley screamed and cried for 30 minutes in the ladies locker room after the class. She was ready to go but I needed to get her and myself dried and changed. It was awful. The class itself was okay but the instructor gave the kids pool toys before class so Miley screamed and pitched a fit anytime you tried to take the toy and have her practice something. The instructor also said to me "Oh just tell her whatever command works at home so she'll listen to you" Listen to me????? She's a toddler, she doesn't listen to me. Her favorite game is do the opposite of what crazy mommy's talking about. So now Daddy will now be attending because she doesn't act that way with him. I really hope tonight goes a lot better or we'll be swim class drop outs.

The one thing you always wanted to hear

About a week ago Miley started saying the most wonderful thing I've ever heard in my entire life. Nothing will ever be as powerful as the four little words that come out of her mouth...."I love you, mommy". So sweet, so simple, yet so unbelievably powerful. She also says "I love you, dada" and the ever popular "I love you, panda". Panda is a stuffed animal that Stephen and my friend Melissa got me for my birthday oh 7 years ago, he's name is the Real McCoy. Anyway, Miley loves panda and she always tells him :) Words will never express the joy we felt the first time our sweet baby said "I love you". We love you too sweet angel :)

Stephen has now also been upgraded from dada to Dadeeeee. She has also suddenly started forming 3 to 4 word sentences. She can say "Me want one" (for a snack), "Want my beep beep" (wants a bike ride), "Want my bup" (that's cup in Miley talk), "Want my bop" (that's boppy or pillow in Miley), "No mommy move" (when she wants me to move), and others but I can't think. I love hearing her tell me things sometimes I understand and sometimes we have no clue but it is all so cute. Oh and for the last month or so whenever you ask her a question or tell her to do something she ALWAYS ALWAYS says "Huh??".

How quickly things change

So it's been forever again since I blogged, whatever I guess that's how I roll now. Anyway, this post is about the month of June in review.

Miley is now a butterfly. She's moved up again and I have to say that we all LOVE this classroom. The last one was blah because the teachers had a lot going on personally so I never knew what was going on during the day to day. The new teachers are very nice and prepare a more structured day. They do arts and crafts, read, sing songs, have playtime, and still have the nap time of coarse. Miley seems to like it but she still cries every morning when I drop her off. She is literally over it within 60 seconds, she puts on the show just for me I guess.

The top k9 teeth have pushed through so she's only got the bottom 2 and her back 4 molars left. Even with the teething, she's been sleeping wonderfully at night (knock on wood). She has been chewing and putting things in her mouth again but she seems content.

Potty training.....what potty training? We've lost her on this, she doesn't tell us when she needs to go anymore. This just won't be one of the things she does early. Speaking of early, I PRAY we are in the peak of the terrible twos. I would say we're up to 2 or 3 kicking, screaming, slapping, fits a day. Mainly when she wants something and she's tired, hot, or hungry. Yesterday I got slapped a few times in the face when she had one said fit at Target because she wanted to ride a 26" bicycle and didn't understand why she couldn't. Fun times but it will end someday right?

Yesterday was Stephen's second Father's Day!! Miley got him a nice card, a new grill (actually got that last month), and two bicycles. Stephen put a baby seat on his bike and we all went for a ride. Miley loved it!!! I'm glad I told him to put her seat on his because I wanted them to have a bonding thing and also he has the extra 25 lbs :).

One last update, as of yesterday afternoon I'm no longer mama. I am now affectionately known as "mameeeee". So very very very sweet and cute that it almost (I said almost) made me forget about being slapped. Oh and I almost forgot...yesterday we were playing on the floor and Stephen faked bite her. Yeah, she punched him in the nose!!! Our self defense workshop worked!! It was a full fisted right upper cut, you go girl!!

Hole in One

Last night we went putt putt golfing with my brother and his girlfriend. I think the last time we went I was 3 days away from delivering Miley. Anyway, Miley carried a little club and golf ball around but wasn't to interested in playing. Finally at hole number 10, Sam (brother's girlfriend) helped Miley tee off and they made a hole in one!!!! Beginners luck or the new female Tiger Woods, you decide.

In other Miley news, we bought her a Tinkerbell toddler bedding set. It came with a fitted sheet, a regular sheet that is fit on the bottom so she can't pull it up, a comforter and a pillow case. She doesn't sleep with a pillow quite yet but it is all really cute. It fit perfectly on her crib mattress and she LOVES it. When anyone comes over she happily shows off her new Tink bedding. I'm not allowed to touch it however. It is always a "No, mama, move!" Aw the abuse I get, oh well.

This week is Miley's last week as a Frog, next week she's a beautiful butterfly. Another bonus is that her week tution goes down $5! It's still $8 more a week from last year and I'm sure the fee will go up again soon but I'll just bank that 5 dollars as long as I can.

Self Defense

Yesterday someone in Miley's class bite her and got her really good. The entire dental record of some toddler is on her arm, the ENTIRE dental imprint. I'm so sick of this biting mess. A few weeks ago they sent home a flyer about why children bite and how to stop it. A couple of the kids in her class have this biting issue. Miley has never once bitten anyone but I'm afraid that if she keeps seeing this behavior she may pick it up. Anyway yesterday we taught her some self defense because I mean her poor arm is black and blue now. It went down like this:

I said "Stephen, mock bite me." He did and I faked sucker punched him in the face and said "Don't bite me!" We repeated this a few times then I would fake bite Miley on her poor arm and lift her fist to my face. She started to get it and this morning we did another trial run. I hope the next time that kid tries anything (and I know who it was) that he'll get a punch to the face. Hope it doesn't back fire and she starts punching people all the time....hmmmmm. Might have to rethink this but I'm sick of her coming home with teeth imprints, someone else needs to leave with a bruise ;).

Second Mother's Day

Sunday was my second Mother's Day and it was so perfect. Stephen woke up with Miley so I got to sleep in until 9 am and then they brought me breakfast in bed. Miley with Daddy's help of course made me a very lovely Mother's Day card. It was by far the best Mother's Day card :). After breakfast we all went went down to the beach for the first time this summer. When I say all of us I mean Stephen, Miley, Daisy (the dog), two friends, and myself. We had such a blast!!! I was a little concerned about how Miley would do since she doesn't like water splashing her face and isn't fond of grass without shoes on. She is a fish!!! We couldn't get her out of the ocean. The first few times the water splashed her face, she didn't like it too much but then she realized she can hold her breathe. *Warning the next few sentences describe in detail Miley underwater, it gave me a heart attack but please know that she is okay.*

Anyway after she realized how to hold her breathe she would walk out to her chest in the water. When a rouge wave came (the waves down here are equivalent to the wake in a bathtub so these were about 6 inches) she would fall over and go under. Stephen or myself would freak then scoop her up, she would then proceed to laugh and try to get back in the water. As the day went on she wanted to float on her back or walk in the chest high water without holding your hand. If I tried to pick her up she would do the limp noodle move and start screaming "Ow, ow, ow". Even Daisy loved being in the water and we found out that she can in fact swim.

It was a really get trip and none of us got sun burnt. We're hoping to go again for Memorial Day weekend if the weather is nice. It was a very nice day, I wish everyday was Mother's Day. And now Miley doesn't mind getting her face wet in the bathtub so bathtime has gotten a whole lot easier.

(May 20---I just realized I saved this as a draft and didn't post it, sorry)

Hair Bows

I had a whole post planned out in my head and now with quitting time approaching I can't remember what I was going to blog about. So I guess I'll blog about my new hobby. Last week I went to a City activities class and learned how to make Sensational Hair Bows for Lil' Girls. It was a fun class and I'm excited about making Miley a hair bow for every occasion. Unfortunately her hair while finally growing is still very thin and she always pulls her bows out of her hair. I'm still goin' make them and she'll learn to wear them. I'll post some pictures of them later tonight. I'm really excited about my new skill and since I have so many of the same kind, those of you with little girls will probably be receiving the extras in the mail soon :).

18 months old! What happened to our baby?

As of Monday, Miley is now 18 months old!!!! Such a great age but what happened to our baby? Time has flown by entirely to fast but thank goodness for this blog so I can look back and see how much she's grown. To mark her 1.5 birthday, we set up her transitional toddler bed. That's right folks, Miley is no longer in the crib! She LOVES climbing in and out of her bed. The first time she climbed in she had a look of pride on her face. She also likes to put all her babies and stuffed animals in her bed so they can go "Nigh, nigh".

For the first couple of nights, she'd wake up and start banging on her door crying to be let out. She'd do this for 10 to 30 minutes and then suddenly all would go quiet. I half expect to find her asleep at the door but she always climbs back in bed. On Tuesday she woke up at 3 am (nothing unusually, this is been going on for 2 months) so I quickly got up to check on her to make sure she didn't fall out of bed. She was just sitting in bed waiting for someone to come. I laid her back down and tried patting her back to sleep. She just sat up half awake, climbed out of bed, walked right past me sucking her thumb and playing with her hair, shuffled down the dark hallway and into our room, stood at my side of the bed, raised her arms and said "up". Guess she still prefers our bed. Knock on wood, that was the last time she woke up in the early morning. I hope this means she'll start sleeping again but I won't hold my breath because yesterday she was a drool machine. Teething again already, I really hope not.

Here are some comparison photos of Miley at 6 months and at 18 months (what a difference a year makes):

Miley's First (and Only hopefully) Car Accident

Miley and I were in a minor car accident this morning. We are both OK, please no one worry. I was stopped at a busy intersection waiting for traffic to clear to make a right turn and the woman behind me was not looking forward and ran into the back of my Saturn. Miley didn't make a peep she was just looking around like "What was that?" Later when the cop was there she was happily blowing him kisses and desperately trying to climb into his cruiser. I'm doing fine, I'm just relieved Miley is okay. The back of my car is smashed and her insurance will have to replace the rear door and bumper. No worries, the woman's Ranger Rover didn't have the slightest dent or scratch, a fact she felt she needed to share with me at the scene. Yeah, thanks lady.

This has been the week from HELL!!!! Very long story but trust me on this. Sunday I had to deal with Dollar Tree when buying treat bags for Miley's Easter party this afternoon. Monday I had a horrible stomach bug that was so bad I couldn't move at around 6 pm. The pain was constant for about an hour and I prayed I would just pass out. Stephen had to help me to the car and with Miley in tow we went to an Urgent Care Center. We sat there for 2 hours and by the time I saw the doctor the pain had finally gone.

But let's stay postive: Because of the stomach bug I lost 8 lbs in 2 days, the treat bags are 18 month old appropriate and super cool, and maybe my car will be totaled and I'll get a new one or the rental car will be really sweet.

First trip to the zoo and Easter pictures

Well I wanted to post pictures from the zoo but after looking through the photos there were only 2 with Miley. Even though we don't have the photos to prove it, Miley had a great time at the zoo. Miley's favorite animal at the zoo......oooh let's have a poll then I'll tell :). We went during Earth Fest so they had a couple of animals out to touch. Miley touched a rat thing, baby alligator, and a ferret. She liked the reptile house because some of the exhibits were her height. She'd run from one to the other saying "nake" (Miley talk for snake). She did really well but refused to nap in her stroller so around 2 she was done!

Below are some Easter pictures from Bellingrath gardens in Mobile. A co-worker took them for us and they are beautiful. Goal for this weekend is to mail Miley's 1 year photos, her newest class photos and some Easter pictures. It's been too long since we're sent pictures and Miley looks so different. It's the hair, it's longer and much blonder. Enjoy and keep an eye out for pictures in the mail :).

Baby Talk and Lil Miss Independent

I have so much to caught up on...Miley and Daddy's first overnight without Mommy, first trip to the zoo, teething, potty training, Miley's independence level, her new language, etc. So first things first:

At the beginning of the month I had an overnight conference in Montgomery. Miley and Daddy had 36 hours without Mommy that was suppose to be a breeze. Daddy's one and only mistake...he decided to stay home with Miley instead of going to work and taking her to daycare. I guess he thought it would be an easy day. Well by 10 am, he called. "Why doesn't Miley and Daisy ever sit still?! I just found Miley playing in the toilet and Daisy drinking out of it!" My response..."You mean you didn't go to work?" Also during this time Miley was really teething so she had runny stool up to three times a day. So around 3, he called again. "Why does she keep pooping, I almost puked last time?" My response..."You meant to stay home for work?!" After those two calls things were under control. They did just fine but I like to tease him a little for thinking work was harder ;). Needless to say the next morning he went to work and Miley went back to school.

We went to the New Orleans zoo on Sunday but I want to save this post for next time so I can upload photos.

Teething is almost over this time around!!! Miley's bottom two molars are all the way out. The upper two are about 3/4ths the way. Those babies are HUGE and so pearly white!!! I think (knock on wood) the 5 am screaming fits are over. Teething really stinks!

Potty training is going pretty good, she's pooped on her potty all week. So proud but still not pushing her too hard.

Miley's independence level has got to be equal to that of a 2 year old. She wants to do EVERYTHING herself. She wants to put on her socks and shoes, get her own snack from the pantry, hold her own fork or spoon, she wants to hold Daisy's leash, push her own buggy on the sidewalk, sit in a booster seat at restaurants (we've noticed her throwing fits in a high chair, tried the booster and bang happy toddler), and she wants to drink out of a cup with a straw because that's how Momma and Dada do it. If you try to help her with some of these things like the shoes or fork, she prys your fingers off of it or throws a fit. I tried to help her push her little Winnie the Pooh car and she literally grabbed my index finger and tried pulling it off the handle. Last night she wanted a bit of my tuna fish because she ate all of hers and she kept trying to grab the fork out of my hand. She's growing up so fast...but on a positive note she does like to help put all her toys away and help unload the dishwasher. Last night she was handing me the clean spoons one at a time and each time said "Tank ew" (Miley talk for Thank you).

I would say starting on Monday, Miley has developed a new "trick" that is sooooooooo cute words cannot describe it. For a little back reference Stephen and I have never talked "baby talk" to Miley. I guess we're just not those kind of people, we've always talked to her normally like she understands. So anyway Miley has now begun to "baby talk" to her dolls. It is so sweet to hear her little voice get higher in pitch and her babbling like you would a baby. She points at the baby's face and says something like "ah baaabeeee ah boo gaaa boo" then holds it really close just gently patting it's back. So cute I cannot stand it! We have to got to find a way to post a video with sound on here!

Zoo post coming next!!!

Health Update and more

Well once again I haven't blogged in awhile but that's because I've been doing field work for the last 2 weeks. Anyway, Miley's ear infection seems to be gone because she's been less clingy; however, her 4 molars are coming in really fast. The bottom two are completely out but the tops are only about 1/2 the way. This makes Miley very whiny and she hasn't really been sleeping so hopeful the other 2 will hurry up. Last week a stomach virus swept the daycare but Miley showed the symptoms for only a day. I was really worried because it took most kids out of day care for a week. So after the ear infection, stomach virus, and teething Miley is doing much better. I've discovered that ice chips really seem to help the teething since she doesn't really chew on anything. The only things she puts in her mouth these days is food and of coarse the right thumb.

Potty training was going okay until the virus struck. Now she tells me after she poops so we've had a little set back. We'll work it out eventually. Lately her vocabulary has seemed to take off. She is like a little parrot repeating most one word syllables. Some new "tricks" include: pointing to her eye and saying eye, doing the same with ear, nose, and belly button (she says baa-ee). She also makes a loud "maawaa" sound when she gives kisses. She loves stepping into my shoes and trying to walk. If you tell her "Miley, get Daisy's numa numa" she runs full and I mean full speed into the kitchen to get Daisy a dog biscuit. She hasn't learned the concept of just one yet but she knows where and what the treats are. We haven't had any other issues with Miley eating dog food but she does like to sit in Daisy's crate and shut the door. I guess it's her "personal" time.

Miley's spring daycare pictures were today so new photos should be coming soon. I'll send her 1 year pictures (5 months ago, what?!!) with these new ones. She has a lot more hair and 4 new pearly whites :)

Beginning Stages of Potty Training

Let me start off by saying that I do not actually believe that Miley understands potty training at 16 months. That being said, I do not think it's a bad idea to try here and there. Lately, Miley has been telling us when she's pooped. She'll walk up to us and say "Poop". She has actually told me one and two times before actually doing it.

This weekend, my Mom found two kids toilet seats on sale (Dora the Explorer even). So I started putting Miley on the potty while I run her bath or if she tells me "poop". She has not yet used the seat. It'll be awhile before she's actually ready but at least she can get used to the seat. She thinks it's fun to sit there and unroll the toilet paper (nice) and she always tries to flush. I actually think potty training may be difficult for us. She doesn't mind a wet diaper. She never has and only recently has not like a poopy diaper. Maybe because her diapers absorb so well she doesn't know when she's wet. Not sure but we'll see how it goes. Wish us luck!

Nigh, Nigh and Mommy's First Real Kiss

I've been a bad blogger :(. Must post more often! Well, Miley has a new super cute trick. On Friday night, Miley and I were sitting on the couch. I was watching TV and she was "reading" a book. She very slowly started leaning toward me until her head was on my arm and simply said "Nigh, Nigh". Aka, for those who don't speak Miley, night, night. It was so cute! I started laughing so of coarse she did it a few more times. Now whenever she's in her high chair, car seat, or sitting quietly, she might randomly lay or turn her head to the side and say "nigh, nigh". She is so cute sometimes we just can't stand it!

Also she now gives a very select few kisses. You just have to point to your check and ask for a kiss. At first I was the only one to receive a kiss but now Daddy and Daisy are on the short list. Oh, I should note that by kiss I mean either her forehead to your check or a big sloppy lick across the face :). Oh well, I love it! We've also started trying a baby potty but I'll blog about that later.

Baby needs a new pair of shoes

Let me paint a picture for you to start this post:

Every morning I have to frantically look for a pair of shoes for Miley to wear to daycare. We had 3 in the loop and she LOVES to find them and hide them in random places around the house. So while I'm looking each morning, I ask her "Miley, where is your shoes?" She looks down at her little feet and replies "Doos"? Yes, Miley where is the other "doo" that looks like this?

On Monday I gave up looking for the Pooh "doos" and just grabbed her Nike's. I usually put her shoes on at red lights but that morning for the life of me, I could not get them on. When we get to daycare I try again thinking it's the angle. No luck, over night size 3 shoes no longer fit Cinderella's feet. So I left Miley at daycare to eat breakfast and ran to Target for size 4 baby shoes. The selection wasn't all that great but I left with a new pair of sandals and some sparkle tennis shoes. I've also learned to hide the new "doos" in the shoe closet and let her play with the old ones. I can't believe how quickly things go from fitting just right to way to small.

Miley's new buddy

Meet our new puppy Daisy! She is a basset hound/dachshund mix pound puppy. She is 10 weeks old and a hand full. Miley and Daisy are the two tag team destructors but they get along well. Miley waves and says "Hi day-ay" about a million times a day and Daisy tries to lick Miley about the same amount. We've had a few incidents with these two. On day 3, the house was suddenly quiet (not a good sign), the dog was asleep on the couch and Miley was missing. I looked EVERYWHERE and couldn't find her. I knew she wasn't outside because all the doors were closed. Just when I started to freak out, I hear a little laugh coming from the dog's crate. Miley was all the way in the back and had shut the door behind her. Later she gotten in there again because I found a highlighter and the tv remotes. Last night the house was suddenly quiet again and again the dog's on the couch so where is Miley? She was in the kitchen eating dog food (the dry kind). I only mention it here so I have proof and can blackmail her. So yes, Miley you ate dog food when you were 15 months old and you liked it!

Not much else to report, Miley had a Valentine's Day party at school today. Stephen and I went and ate pizza with her. She was all decked out in her Valentine's outfit, I think it looks like a 70's pink leisure suit. What do you think?

15 Month Check-up

Last week, Miley had her 15 month well baby checkup. She is doing very well, has great growth, no ear infection, and is in fact working on 4 new teeth. The top two molars have broken the surface while the bottom 2 are still hiddden. She recieved two vaccines and is now done with vaccines until she's 4!! The doctor said she'll likely be potty trained between 1.5 to 2.5 and definelty by the time she's in college (woohoo!) Next well baby checkup is at 2 years but I'm sure we'll be back for another ear infection in the next couple of weeks.

15 month stats:

Weight: 22 lbs 6 oz---50% for her age
Height: 30 inches (that 9.5 inches since birth!)---50% for her age
Head C: 18 3/4 inches---75% for her age

Vocabulary Update

Two posts in one day!?! I'm a bit slow at work and I wanted to posted a vocabulary update before I forgot like the fashion post. At 15 months little Miss Miley can say the following words/phrases and uses then on purpose:

Hi
Bye-bye
No
Ut oh
Bo (this is the term for all dogs)
Get down (means pick me up and now also put me down)
Get out (put me down)
Da Da
Mama
Bup
Baby
Ba (meaning ball)
Elmo (I swear I heard this yesterday)
Two
Nose (then points to her mouth)
baba (then points to her belly button)
doos (meaning shoes)
Mimi
Nummas (any food item or get me a snack) oh side note: Now whenever she's hungry she goes over to her high chair trying to climb it and yells numma numma

Daycare said she can say something close to Miley but I've not heard it.

Fashion at 15 months

I was going to post this last week but I forgot all about it until last night. All week I was thinking "I know I had to blog about something". Well folks, I finally remembered. Below is a series of photos of Miley pre- and post-wardrobe makeover. All and I mean ALL of her 12 months stuff suddenly didn't fit anymore. Case in point the below picture:

Notice the belly and the high wader pants! And just look at that face saying "Mommy, why don't you dress me in something that fits". Poor baby went to daycare looking like that. Well, I bought an insane amount of 18 month outfits. And look at the difference:

Doesn't she look happier without her belly hanging out! And of course somethings are big but she'll grow into them.

Here are some shots of the damage. Oh well, this is why we both work so we don't have to worry about putting clothes on our backs (or in Miley's case her tummy).

No's the word

Well, Miss Miley has a new favorite word....NO! She loves telling me no whenever she deems appropriate. Do you need clean pants...no, no or do you want to go bye-bye....no, no or do you want down....no, no or can I see that book...no, no. The way she says it is so cute I can't help but laugh. She puckers her lips out really far and just keeps repeating no like 4 or 5 times. I always repeat with a yes, yes, yes. She started this last Saturday and was immediately a pro at saying no ;).

The ear infection is gone....how do I know you ask.....SHE SLEEPS ALL NIGHT!!!! We're all so much happier when we get a good night's rest. She's still working on the molars so every once in a while she gets fussy but she's hanging in there. The second week as a frog went well. They only have the nicest things to say about our little angel. She never cries and is a very good helper. On Friday, they asked her to get Hayleigh's cup from across the room and she did! She got the correct cup and walked it over to Hayleigh, I think she's a baby genius. The naps are going well, as soon as they take Miley's lunch plate she gets up from the table and walks over to her cot. They don't have to tell her or drag her over there. She knows it's nap time and she's ready. I would love to see that, let's just say she's not that agreeable with me at nap time. She knows how to play me and she is very good at it :)

I forgot about the molars

The doctor said that three of her four first molars are coming in. So on top of the new room and bad ear infection, she is also teething. No wonder the poor thing hasn't been sleeping. Hopefully, the teeth will push through soon and we can all get a good night's sleep. Last night she woke up at 3 am, her preferred time, but fell back asleep until 8. She kicked poor Daddy out of bed this morning around 6 because she is a bed hog.

Today she has a pretty rough cough and a leaky nose. She does know who to blow her nose just unfortunately she doesn't always wait for a Kleenex. So today is a PJ day since it's raining anyway. I just hope we have enough food at the house to satisfy her appetite. She had 2 breakfasts this morning and is still asking for some nummies.

Rough first week as a Frog

On Monday, Miley moved to the next class up at daycare, again! She is now a frog. There are some big differences from a bird baby to a toddler frog, below are a few:
They nap once a day in COTS not cribs.
They play outside (weather permitting) twice a day for 45 minutes at a time.
They sit at tables with little pull out chairs.
They have storytime, playtime, and snacktime things a now very scheduled.

The first day, Miley was trying to pickup her little chair and slipped hitting her head on the table. Only a minor bruise but I didn't take it all that well since it was her first day. Yesterday, she was so sleepy before her nap that she fell asleep while walking outside, fell, and scratched her nose on the ground. Other than the few mishaps her new teachers say she is adjusting very well. At nap time, Miley wakes up before the other toddlers and just quietly (yes they said quietly) lays in her cot until it's time to wake up. I would LOVE to see that. When they play outside her class (nicknamed the rough riders since they aren't used to the playground equipment and play kinda rough) climb on the slides and bump around the other kids playing.

We're so proud of her and how well she's taken the new house and class. She also started with new cups so it's like her whole world is turned upside down. She has adjusted well but unforunately has another cold and hasn't been herself the last few days. The last few weeks she hasn't been sleeping all that well and yesterday she was fussy at daycare so I took her to the doc today. And drumroll......she has another ear infection. We've gone 35 days without one but it's back again. I'm sure she's had it for while because she never gets fussy at daycare until it gets really bad. So we'll start our antibotics again then on the 29th go in for a well baby visit. With this new trip to the doctor, you all know what that means, another guess her weight poll. Good luck, everybody. Hint: Last month she weighed 21 lbs 2 oz.
